If the latter, replace parts on the PM model rather than waiting for failure.

You may have a bad reservoir. If it appears to stay wet around the cap than replacing the reservoir is your first action. A part breaks inside causing the fluid to aerate causing a noisy pump. It all comes down to paying now (good stuff) for the long term or getting by using cheap stuff and you may have to pay more later. This is the basic choice every vehicle owner makes. Just get by for now or plan for long term ownership.
