Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Didn't get a chance to use the audio test station in anger today. Need to find out how those fake cassettes you can use to connect a phone or iPod works. Does it use the whole mechanism or just the sound head and not use the drive belt? No idea, so if anyone knows let me know! I've uploaded a coupl...

Re: Tyre size S70
I have also recently learned that 205/60/16 will fit, but there is an increased risk of rubbing if your suspension is really worn out. 215/50/16 will also fit. Allegedly so will 215/55/16 with stock or higher ride height.

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Tie Rods
On my 98 S70, I ended up only doing the one outer the first time, only to end up doing all four about a year later at around 250k miles. I also did control arms and struts, and it had a dramatic improvement in handling, despite the majority of the components being seemingly "fine". If you ...

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Radiator Hoses Preventative Maintenance?
In my experience, the heater hoses will last forever as long as you don't touch them. Inspect the hoses. If there are no bulges, cracking, or signs of seeping, then they are probably serviceable for a while longer ~200k. They are all easy to replace baring the coolant supply line that runs to ...

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Tie Rods
I had no problem doing my tie rods. I used a pipe wrench for the inners. Just don't put too much excessive force into it. Since you've already done control arms, then yes I'd do all 4 tie rods.

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Radiator Hoses Preventative Maintenance?
The plastic bits have been fine for me. The rubber hoses started to turn into a squishy brittle substance that I wouldn't call rubber.

98-00 Center Console compatibility?
I grabbed a well used center console from a 2000 XC for my project 98 V70. I really just wanted to have a cigarette lighter and cup holders back. Unfortunately, the big white plug to power all the accessories seems to be different from the one on the console. Pic attached. The connector for the OBD ...

Re: Oil shelf life
If it's a sealed jug, then 5+ years easy on the shelf. If it's in the sun, maybe a year tops because the bottle will degrade. Always shake your jugs to ensure a homogeneous mixture before filling.

Re: Safety systems, bandaids and lawsuits
NTB aligned my car 3 times before getting it right. The first time they said the steering box was messed up so the wheel was a little off. I told them I needed to drive 800 miles that weekend. They said it was safe. What I quickly came to discover was the wheel was at 3 o'clock driving "straigh...
