Frame is supported on jack stands, far enough apart and away from the tank so you can maneuver. Disconnect the wire retainer that holds the rubber filler neck into the sheet metal. Very good explanation, thanks! So it does cycle in and out of traction / driving the rear wheels. Not intended to be in AWD for very long, just get you out of traction problems? Can you see or feel the time lag? How does it act when climbing a steep icy slope? Are the rear wheels kicking in and out?...

Were you accelerating, or maybe even just holding the gas pedal down as you hit the icy patches? Going uphill at all under load? I would say individual wheels were losing traction briefly, then grabbing again when they hit dry pavement. When one wheel loses traction, the other wheels are still pulli...
