Re: Look at the difference between a group 3 and group 5 oil I'm amazed
Short OCIs do alleviate the problem with sludge since condensation collecting in the oil is flushed out more often. It's the standard remedy used by Saab-people who've also had some sludge-prone engines to deal with. You're probably living in a less sludge-prone climate as well compared to those of ...

Re: Water in Gas
The pump will do it for you if you just turn the ignition to 2 and put a tube in a good place, yes. Heet seems to be mostly expensive methanol which does the same thing as adding ethanol. But if you have a lot of water, enough to make the var run poorly, I'm guessing you'd need a lot more to really ...

Re: Power Steering Leak fixed today - some questions please
I've had the pressure hose off to remove the pump to get to the thermostat. No issues getting it to seal again. If the fitting isnt leaking now It'll probably be fine. Do you have the metal ring keeping the nut in place? I'd put my money on air to begin with. Do a couple of full turns each way at lo...

Re: door glass re-set help?
my bad... that's not the speaker (thank god, since it is riveted in). Oh bad news for me - my front door passenger side speaker sounds blown, was hoping to easily replace it when I finally dig in to investigate why my window on the same door will no longer go down. How is the process to remove the ...

Re: How to jump start another car using a V70?
There's a plus terminal behind the air filter box that works well for this. It's got a small plastic flap over it with a plus sign on it.

Re: How to jump start another car using a V70?
I've used the hood connectors a few times and it's works like a charm. I connect the ground wire to the ground connectors on the inside of the fender.
Both starting my own car and helping start others.

Re: My first Volvo less then 17 years old
The newer systems are supposed to be much more forgiving when it comes to different tyre wear than the old ones. Is a 05 the "new system" or old like my 1998 was? If the 05 S80 has the type on my 1998 V70 GT Cross Country I felt he should be warned to be careful about mismatched tire wear...

Re: My first Volvo less then 17 years old
June: To simplify it's a dumb system that mechanically reacts to differences in how to wheels move vs an intelligent electronic system that calculates how to react and can allow a bit of movement before kicking in. The electronics allows small differences in wheel diameter for example. I think the s...

Re: strut mount replacement
It's quite easy but time consuming to DIY. You have to compress the springs which takes some time and effort without the right equipment. You can easily do just the mounts. But before you start doing the work check for leaks in the struts and so on so you don't replace one part at a time and end up ...

Re: Synthetic Oil Harmful?
My mom does about 1200 per year. Only 7,200 in 4.5 years. When I went to Blackstone Labs they told me that an oil change every 3 years were fine. I have her do one per year. Cheap insurance. Plus she still has a warranty. Once every three years sounds crazy to me. All those short distance trips is ...
