Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge

MVS readers, It is time for the next repair on my S80. As you can see from the picture my front Volvo Badge had lost its tranquil blue background Volvo_2.jpg After a little research I found the part number Volvo_3.jpg And here is what is inside of the box Volvo_1.jpg And for the most important part...

Re: Car misfires on cold start, new battery giving whining sound

We are going to need more information. How do you know it is Misfiring? (is the check engine light flashing?) Does it Misfire at the initial high idle or after the idle drops? In case you don't know the 3.2 is also used in the Land Rover LR2. Here is a thread to take a look at on the Land Rover boar...

Re: Running rich (both banks) 3.2

Here is what I would do in your situation. 1. Check the pressure at the fuel rail. You can measure it independently with a pressure gauge (which is a bit challenging) or swap the sensor between two of your 3.2s. I own two 3.2s and I would swap the sensor or replace it. Why? if the sensor is measurin...

Re: Running rich (both banks) 3.2

One last thought I did this recently for a LR2 owner with the 3.2 You should confirm that your 3.2 does this (if you don't have a code reader that can give you this information then you should get one) I am going to quote myself I did a cold start today. 0 PSI before I engaged the starter motor On i...

Re: Running rich (both banks) 3.2

Replaced MAF, PCV, fuel pressure sensor on the rail Lean conditions bank one and two. I am not sure based on your post if you have a: Vacuum leak (unmetered air) or Excess fuel. The fuel trim will tell you this Positive Long Term Fuel Trim = Vacuum leak / unmetered air entering the system Negative ...

Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge

MVS Readers, ABSCATE makes an excellent point. The S80 is an amazing ride and with some preventative maintenance it should last a long time. I enjoy watching videos from an S80 owner in the UK. The video that I am sharing is an example of what not to do. However most of the Videos made by DRIVELIFE...

Re: $10,000 S80 Challenge

3.2 Serpentine belt evaluation (also applicable to 3.0T) This is the serpentine belt one way clutch overdrive pulley. Checking the function of this pulley is extremely easy. Engine off....Just try to move the serpentine belt at the AC compressor. It it moves easily in one direction the pulley is fi...

Re: Oil consumption and the dealership diagnostic process

FIREFOX, If you review the Technical journal from Volvo that looks at oil consumption you will see how they evaluate the oil consumption. Let me summarize what I would do if I were your relative 1. Rebuild the Vacuum pump (Volvo has an excellent rebuild kit, I recommend you start there) 2. Evaluate ...

Re: Oil consumption and the dealership diagnostic process

Let me answer the PCV question. (For the warranty question I will need to look at the emission label for my 2010 S80 and get back to you) The PCV on the 3.2 and 3.0T is controlled by a diaphragm. When it is working correctly a very small vacuum is present at idle in the crankcase. If it fails then t...

Re: Good or bad idea: Aftermarket power steering pump for 2008 XC90 3.2

My recommendation is to replace the power steering reservoir. Inside it has a screen filter that gets clogged and caused problems like what you are having.
