front rotors and brake for 98 S70

Post by carlos »

What rotor and brake pads would you recommend for a 1998 S70. And what is the difference between using a 280mm or a 306mm rotor? Thanks in advance.

Whatever the dealers use. Going off-brand in any 850/S/V70 braking component is (IMO) the #1 cause of "wish I had used OEM materials."

Squeaks, rattles, dust, warping rotors... all symptoms of someone improving performance or saving money.

Brembo Max Sport discs, Mintex red dot pads. No squeking, less dust and better performance.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg stay with the 280MM rotors that are on your car now. I would go with either Brembo or Zimmerman rotors and genuine Volvo pads all available from FCP.

The only volvo mechanic I kind-of know says volvo pads are a must or you end up with squeaking. I just had zimmerman rotors and volvo pads put on a couple of months ago, just before I bought my s70, and that combo has worked very well. These cars just brake incredibly well, especially when you're used to other makes.

Another vote here for the Zimmerman rotors. My S70 has had them on the front for well over 30k miles now. Very satisfied. Used aftermarket pads, however. Seems to increase rotor life and definitedly has less dust. You do get that bit of squeal, however.

I just put ATE rotors and Remsa full Ceramic pads on about 5000km ago. Absolutely no squeel and GREAT braking, continue to grab harder as they heat up. I did use ATE and OE pads on the back and again no squeel.
