Try a power flush to change out the fluid first. Have any codes reset and see what happens.

This may correct you problem. If it still has the problem a new trans may be in order.

I have had it power flushed and replaced the s1/s2 Solenoids.
Both have had no impact.
The issue seems to be getting worse.
Any next steps you would suggest?

Mine does the same thing, I think its related to the PNP switch, because if I do not let the car warm up it gets stuck in 3rd gear with the flashing up arrow (PNP switch). But if I let the car warm up in cold weather it get stuck in 1st for a few hundred feet or even a mile or two. I have found that if I put it in neutral and back into gear that it then corrects itself. Sometimes it may take a couple of Neutral to Drive attempts to make it correct but it is now a work around until I get the PNP switch replaced ($350 - $400 local dealer quote).

Ditto on the PNP switch.

Swapping out the S1/S2 solenoid would have corrected the problem I was thinking about.

Did you change the PNP switch yourself? If so how hard was it and how long did it take. I have read about how to change it, but once I got to the alignment tool part I figured it would be better to have someone else handle it.

I got same problem with my volvo, seems to be regular problem with automatic tranny 850. I take out switch, open ( copule bolts) clean up with brake cleaner, apply new grease( like vazelin etc good electrical connection) install switch back. Everyting work perfect, like new switch. I got a picture if you want. Take me about 1,5 - 2 hours. If you fix yours car byself you can fix that. email me for pic [email protected]

I'm having similar problems with my '93 850. Trans won't shift out of low gears when cold. Just flushed and put in Mobil 1 synthetic ATF with little change. I am now getting codes 114 and 323. 114 is switch between seats which just went bad. 323 is "lock up slips". I was also getting PNP code (313?) which went away after shifting lever back and forth 5-10 times quickly. Does this still sound like it could be PNP, or is it more likely internal seals or something more involved that may require new tranny? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Tobin.
