2002 V70 idling problem

Post by jipsy »

Hi, I just purchased a 2002 V70 wagon with almost 44K on it. Last night when driving it home, I noticed that if it is completely at a stand still in drive, it idles at about 800 RPM's. If I take my foot off the brake, it begins to move forward on it's own, slowly, but erratically. It makes little jumps. Kind of like a race horse waiting for the gate to open :P

Any idea what might cause this and what I can do to fix it? It is still under warranty so I want to get it fixed now.

02? then it shouldn't be a failed throttle mechanism - see the engine stalling thread above - probably just a dirty throttle plate that just needs to be cleaned. Don't worry, it'll get a lot worse if you're concerned nobody will know what you're talking about. It could also be a bad Mass Air Sensor or one thats going south, but you need the dealers diagnostics to determine that. How's the miliage?

average is 29.9

I didn't think it should be a faulty throttle but I wasn't sure. I'll read the cleaning thread - thanks!
