93 850 GLT won't start?!

Post by Guest »

I just got this car a few weeks ago, It was garage kept by its first and only owner and only had 70,000 miles on it. Amazing car for its age and everything has ran fine. Well I had the car washed today and they washed the engine also cuz it has gotten really messy over the years and looks to not been done in a long while. They finished and I went to start the car and it wont start?! Theres power, it turns over but it wont start whats happened? Bad idea to have the engine cleaned? Volvos are kinda new to me, been in chevys / gmc all my life so yea I'm stupid here. Help!?

Thanks
Stupid 850 Owner

Bad idea to have the engine washed. The spark plugs sit down in deep wells atop the engine under the center cover. They are supposedly sealed by the plug boots but on a 12 y.o. car they may have leaked and gotten water down in there and ground out your ignition.

Take off the cover (six or eight torx screws), pull the plug wires, and use compressed air to blow out the water and dry everything out good. A shop-vac to suction up the water first would be best. Then hope you are OK.

Here you go from the archives. What did they clean engine with? Sprayed with soap & Water or used that aerosol engine cleaning stuff.

The sprinklers that come on at 3am sound like crowds of people asking-- "Whatcha doin to that 850?"

It may be worth your while to pop off the distributor, and make sure it is dry also. Water in there will also cause some problems with the ignition. Now that it is clean keep it that way and avoid this in the future.
