Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

So far there are no other known abnormalities. My daughter needed to take the car back to college so I rigged a toggle switch to control and isolate the FST1 relay. Other than the toggle switch for the wipers everything else in the car works normally even the windshield washer still works. Thanks fo...

Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

I know of no other abnormalities in the car at all. Signal lights do work normally but I don't really know for sure about the high/low beam function. "Engine running is a different status on the network" is a very interesting statement to me. If the alternator proves not to be a problem that stateme...

Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

Thanks abscate! Bad diodes is exactly what I suspected in the first place. I did try a "known good" used alternator because it was quickly available. It made no difference and I was extremely bummed. Not necessarily a conclusive test of course. Because your input supports my original theory I am goi...

Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

The wiper motor/transmission itself is very simplistic. No electronics in the motor/transmission assembly. There is a simple "park" switch that is connected directly to the CEM. The switch seems to work 100% of the time.

Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

That is very interesting. Yes, I have tried 2 "known good" switches. They both acted the same as the original. After reading your experience I am going to get a new Volvo switch. It is probably the least expensive thing for me to try at this point anyway. I find it totally bizarre that everything is...

Re: S60 Erratic Wiper Function

I had to go check just to be sure. I don't believe that I ever tried it in position 1. I always went right to position 2. With key in position 1, what I would call the accessory position, (engine not running) the wipers are normal. All is normal until I start the engine unless I remove the belt or p...

S60 Erratic Wiper Function

I all, I could use some help. 2004 S60 w/rain sensor feature. For quite some time the wipers were not really following the wiper switch positions. I had tried changing the wiper switch but no change. Hindsight tells me that there was something wrong with the rain sensor which until the latest proble...
