Re: 1999 S70 GLT Ticking Sound

I believe I have hydraulic lifters but I need to fetch my torque bit drivers from my friends garage in order to look but will confirm soon.  I am thinking about trying a little Liqui Moly hydraulic lifter additive to clean things up. Is it safe to use in these engines and has anyone had luck with it...

Re: 1999 S70 GLT Ticking Sound

Hah, that's exactly what happened.
The fan was like wait let me get my headphones on and get in on this.

It's just strange how it is so much louder in those occasional periods.

Is she trying to tell me something?
Anything I should be preparing to remedy?

As always I appreciate the help!

1999 S70 GLT Ticking Sound

Hey everyone, I wanted to upload a recording of a pronounced ticking noise that is not normal for my Volvo S70 GLT. It almost sounds like a classic Volvo S70 lifter tick, but it becomes much more pronounced at certain times and then completely goes away. It usually happens after the car has been sit...

Re: S70 Turbo Contactless ETM Needed

Pulling the rad fan is huge on the turbo cars. Eric. That 2000 turbo is a special snowflake engine but I have a fair number of parts for that year I love hearing that. I will absolutely keep that in mind. Especially out here in Philadelphia. Not a lot of P80s like New England. Day two and idle is s...

Re: S70 Turbo Contactless ETM Needed

Thanks very much! The gasket situation is indeed new. Thanks to Volvo's supersession numbering system I guess the older and slightly larger 8636753 for the turbo engine is now a one size fits all VOL-31430474. It does work - but it means you might get stuck really fiddly with one corner opening gett...

Re: S70 Turbo Contactless ETM Needed

Also, I need to start her up without the MAF unplugged after doing the 'get to know you' key in pos 2 exchange.
So the ECU was forced to use a default air/fuel/spark profile but once I plugged the MAF back in- super smooth and ever since on each start up

Re: S70 Turbo Contactless ETM Needed

Essentially small amounts of blue tack on each bolt through the body to keep the new gasket in place then carefully lining the ETM up underneath the intake and threading in bolts and removing the tack as I went. The new 'universal' gasket is just small enough to slip off a corner and create a big en...

Re: S70 Turbo Contactless ETM Needed

Thanks, I really appreciate that. At this point I've done the whole job about twice so I wasn't looking to do it a fourth time after this hopefully final version.
