I'm having a very similar issue on my 2005 xc90 2.5t awd. Did you figure this out? I'm thinking it's the cv axle support/carrier bearing grinding from the engine shifting around from shot motor mounts. I know your post is old, but wanting to hear from people who have solved their issue!

@Pretribrapper Any update on this? I have a 2005 2.5t awd with literally the exact same issue you were facing. I couldn't explain the symptoms better myself.
