Last year the water pump pump on my 850 seized and threw the timing belt, unfortunately bending causing some valve damage (see my post history here). 253144 on the odometer.
I've decided its not worth my time and money to rebuild the head or put a new engine in (unless a very good deal magically ...

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
I'm in northern MN, but I probably won't be able to undertake it until late next spring at the latest. will be out of state for a while.
So, it would be great if someone has a lead on something, but I won't be able to act on it until then.
Cheers

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
Well, I was hoping to write a message of a different tone today, but alas. No compression on two out of the five cylinders.
Abscate, your pump came today and I got it installed. Checked the timing belt alignment five or six times doing a 720 degree crank rotation, was lined up every time ...

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
I sent out an old Hepu pump yesterday USPS. Im not sure where this one came from so don’t run car with it. Stick it in with no gasket for testing purposes. It was made in 1998 so it’s got patina
Great, I'll be ready when it comes. I've got the old water pump out (also a Hepu), that thing sounds ...

Re: 94 850 Wagon Max Fan Relay Hot, 4 speed not working
I have not fixed it, have been doing OK with just three fan speeds.
I believe it is probably the bad socket/relay. The blower motor is very new, but I replaced an older one recently that was almost shot.

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
However it does look a little more than one off by another criterion: for a timed engine when the triangle of the cam sprocket bolts on the left (exhaust) cam sprocket sits exactly flat, the triangle on the right sits exactly upside down
Great, I did not know about the triangle rule for the ...

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
I misspoke about being able to crank it before, I am unable to as the water pump is frozen.
I counted the teeth between the alignment marks on the cam, and the marks on the timing case, and it seems they *might* be off by only one tooth. However I am unsure on the right sprocket, as it looks like ...

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
Yeah, that sounds like a water pump seize up. I’m going to guess it was an off brand water pump that failed, not an AISIN or Volvo.
Yep, that was it! Just had a look at it, metal shavings inside the bottom of the of the timing belt case, and unable to turn the water pump by hand. A bit of a ...

Re: Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
Well, after reading about timing belts for the last hour, it seems like if its that, I'm SOL. Don't think me or my bank account is up to the task of new valves.
Seems like the engine suddenly dying points to the timing belt.

Grinding noise, coolant leak, sudden death, and now won't start
Hello,
I drive a 94 850.
Yesterday I noticed a slight grinding noise from the right side of the engine. I was slightly concerned, but thought it wasn't bad enough to warrant immediate attention. It looked like there was slight coolant loss.
Fast forward to today. Slight grinding noise was still ...
