Call for help - PCV replacement
2005 XC70 - Replaced the timing belt, idler pulley, belt tensioner, water pump, serpentine belt, serpentine belt tensioner, thermostat housing, and then the entire PCV system. I thought the banjo bolt on the driver's side of the motor was a nightmare but was I wrong: I have just spent 6 hours of my ...

Re: 2005 XC70 - Lukewarm heat - Next steps?
The temp gauge is buffered so in the middle does not mean much. Get a real thermometer and stick it inside the vent after a long drive and see what you get. I posted info in forum, I don't remember off hand but it should be 160F. Chances are your thermostat is bad, I'd replace the thermostat first....

Re: 2005 XC70 - Lukewarm heat - Next steps?
If the temperature gauge is riding at midpoint then chances are that the thermostat is OK. If it’s below midpoint then the thermostat may be shot. If you remove both the driver’s and passenger’s under dash panels and both console side panels you can see the blend door linkages and their drive motor...

Re: 2005 XC70 - Lukewarm heat - Next steps?
Interesting...would a blend door on the left side affect both? We're not getting consistent heat from any of the vents.
Thermostat I hadn't considered. Is there a thread with symptoms that I can match up to what I'm seeing?

2005 XC70 - Lukewarm heat - Next steps?
Might have members on more than one Volvo forum...this has been posted to one other site: Ok, new member here but not new to Volvo's. Question: My XC70 had little to no heat in a recent cold spell here in the south. Did some reading and research and one of the common issues is a plugged heater core,...

Re: How to tell if the engine mounts are bad?
Ok, I managed to get this done in an afternoon last week. Some observations: 1. Getting the old driveshaft loose in the middle and two ends was tedious but not difficult. My bolts were 8mm hex all around. 2. I found that lowering the exhaust a few inches (slowly) from the back of the vehicle made it...

Re: How to tell if the engine mounts are bad?
The front CVJ should bust loose pretty easily. Even a 2’ pry bar should do. Just make sure that you don’t mess up the output flange seal on the bevel gear. The rear CVJ might come easy, it might not. The really stubborn ones have to be cut, as in oscillation flange. Hopefully yours isn’t that bad. ...

Pete: how did you "exert force on the head" of the sacrificial bolts?

Re: How to tell if the engine mounts are bad?
Yes, I am replacing the entire driveshaft.
I will review this in detail and review the invoices to see if this was done by the prior owner.
