Do you think that my smoking is probably piston rings rather than stem seals or valve guides then, if it only occurs after long periods of high vacuum / engine braking, rather than after idling or upon start up?

I never had any joy with the OEM bolts despite trying several loctites. Maybe because I have aftermarket shafts, not sure. I bought some XC90 style copy bolts from Poland via eBay, and they seem to have worked so far.

Theyre not showing metal thats for sure, so I think they will be OK for the UK MOT.

Everything else on the front end is new, so im unsure why I still have odd clunks, strangely more when it is wet! I think the aftermarket driveshaft may be the vibration source
