I was wrestling with this problem on my new to me S40. The left Xenon headlight was out. After checking bulbs, ballasts, and wiring, it ended up being a bad “GDL” controller. Looked up the part number mrbrian200 mentioned and found one on Amazon for $30. Thanks guys.
