Re: Volvo S80 - next step?
I wouldn't worry about that one 30.000 km oil change.
This for sure is a fine automobile. Enjoy!
Based on what I've managed to gather as information, even though I haven't seen the car in person yet, I have the same feeling.
I bought my current car (S60) on the same principle, with an even ...

Re: Volvo S80 - next step?
29k km is a long time without an oil change, you're right. The PCV system might need to be replaced, and yes belt for sure. Can you have it evaluated by a garage before you buy it?
I will for sure do the PCV glove test to see if it works normally and do at least 30-40 minutes of driving both in ...

Re: Volvo S80 - next step?
The engine is very similar to the 2.4 in your S60, except with a turbo. Fuel economy will be not quite as good but not a large difference. The second generation S80 is well regarded, a decent Volvo. The maintenance log book looks good with regular oil changes. In the US that would be a great sign ...

Volvo S80 - next step?
Hello,
For about 5 years I have been the happy owner of a 2005 Volvo S60 with a 2.4 140 horsepower gasoline engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
A wonderful car, which for a little over 55,000 km has not caused me any serious headaches.
However, since its age is advancing, and I want to ...

Re: Stiff steering wheel in certain positions S60 2005
after disconnecting the u joint I'd test the steering wheel again for sticking points.
But as far as I understand, before detaching the u-joint column, the steering wheel must be locked and not turned until it is reattached, so as not to damage the SAS sensor.
Am I understanding correctly ...

I will replace it with a new part. It is not that pricy.cn90 wrote: 28 Feb 2026, 11:29 Actually,
The u-joint replacement is easy if you have done it before (driveshaft etc.).
No compromise on quality.
However, it is easier to replace the entire thing.

Re: Stiff steering wheel in certain positions S60 2005
- I think the PN is in the photo below. Use genuine Volvo part only.
- If you are short of budget, then find a standard u-joint (I think it is 15x40mm type but check to be sure). This setup has no circlip, so it is similar to driveshaft staked u-joint. Use a C-clamp to press it out (brace the ...

Stiff steering wheel in certain positions S60 2005
Hello,
The car is a 2005 S60, with an automatic transmission, a 2.4 engine, 140 horsepower.
For some time now I have had a problem with a stiff steering wheel in certain positions (left or right turn of about 90 degrees, as shown in the pictures).
Since I know that steering u-joints, especially ...
