Re: 740 GLE Wagon 1989 Master Brake Cylinder

I bought the car with the melted master cylinder, apparently.

I'm still not sure about the ABS. There isn't a light that says ABS but there is on that says ANTI- that comes on, would that be it?

Cheers,
Luke

Re: 740 GLE Wagon 1989 Master Brake Cylinder

Upon further inspection the master cylinder was melted and was allowing a lot of moisture and other contaminants to get into the brake fluid... so I decided to do that before I would flush the brake lines. I guess that makes sense if I have the ABS light that I would have ABS. haha. Thanks! Cheers, ...

740 GLE Wagon 1989 Master Brake Cylinder

Hey all,

Does anyone know if the '89 740 GLE wagons have ABS? Or a good way to find out if it does? I'm looking to get a new brake master cylinder and install it... which leads me to my next point: Any tips or instructions on how to do this? Thanks for the help!

Luke

Re: 740 Wagon 1989 Brakes

I haven't done it since I got the car a couple of months ago. What would be the best way to do that?

740 Wagon 1989 Brakes

Alright, Maybe you can help me out here. My brake pedal has to almost be depressed completely to the floor in order for them to engage. This happened slowly over the past few days. What could the problem be? I checked the brake fluid and it was full... that's all I could really think of, haha. Any h...

So I need some help with the installation of the pull-rod. What would be the best way to do this do you think?

Would anyone happen to have a "pull-rod" (part 16 in the diagram above) that I would take off your hands or could you point me in the right direction of where I could get one? I found that the one inside of mine was broken in multiple places. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers, Luke

I actually didn't check for oxidation. Honestly, I don't know much about it. What are some tell-tale signs and ways I could clean it up ? Thanks for your help!

89 740 Wagon Standard rear brake lights

Back again,

I replaced the rear brake lights with new bulbs but they still aren't triggering when I depress the brake. Fuse problems? I'm not sure. What do you think?
thanks for the help!

Thanks for that!

Its a manual transmission. The mechanism I'm talking about is on the shifter that you have to lift up which enables you to shift into reverse. I'm assuming this is another simple thing to do.
