Re: 94 850 stalling

The CEL was not on, but the problem was intermittent. The fuel pump had been replaced some years ago, and it was running normally, supplying gas to the fuel rail. That's why looking at the MAF or throttle plate made sense to me. I suppose another culprit could have been the idle control valve, but i...

94 850 stalling

My 1994 850T with 155,000 miles on it developed a dangerous problem. When stopped at a traffic light or during deceleration at high speed on the highway, the rpm would sometimes drop and the car would stall unpredictably. It was usually easy to restart by shifting into neutral and cranking it over, ...

Re: Let's see your Volvo (The Photo Thread)

Attached is a photo of my 1994 Volvo 850 turbo wagon with 148,000 miles on the odometer. It has an ECU, exhaust system, ignition coil, K&N air filter, and strut tower brace upgrades (all from IPD). The only major maintenance it has required was replacement of the turbocharger following an oil le...

Re: 850T wagon 1994 Adding oil pressure gauge

The best solution (as suggested earlier) was to use an electronic oil pressure gauge. In order to keep the existing Volvo pressure switch for the dashboard warning light, I used a metric male thread to female 1/4" pipe thread adapter (available from Amazon.com for about $8.50) and a brass t-fit...

Re: 850T wagon 1994 Adding oil pressure gauge

I was thinking of using a mechanical gauge. They are relatively cheap, though it does require running an oil containing line to the gauge rather than just wires.

850T wagon 1994 Adding oil pressure gauge

Has anyone added an oil pressure gauge to an 850? I believe the oil pressure switch for the idiot light is on the side of the engine block near the radiator. I would like to find a place closer to pick up the oil pressure to keep the tubing length a lot shorter than that.

Re: Please Help. 2003 Volvo XC90, pouring blue smoke from tailpi

Replacing the turbo is not that difficult. I just did it with a 1994 850 that was blowing huge clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust. After checking the compression to rule out bad rings, I was able to find an inexpensive used turbo ($175). Modern turbochargers are very reliable, and a used, working...
