My wife's 2004 V70 driver mirror did the same, shimmied all over. The mirror plate fell off in my hand. The tech at the local dealer said he's seen this before and to just epoxy the plate to the backing. I got some of that 1 minute stuff and ran it around the outside of the mirror plate about 1/2 in...

There was a huge and both scientific and emotional discussion on this in my Acura forum that ran for many pages. The bottom line was use what's recommended. You probably won't notice the difference short term if you don't need max power all the time when you use regular but you don't save much money...
