A great resource for tire sizing info is 1010tires.com They have a calculator that details out the tire sizes and compares them..shows the percentage your speedo would be off...etc.. It appears as though the 850R came stock with 205/45/17. But I'm running 215/45/17's right now very comfortably.

Broken hood hinge? You could look down in the fender opening where the hinge goes through and see if one of the springs is loose or broken. Its possible that what you are describing could be the symptoms of a worn out upper spring seat on one of the struts. I had that issue on my wife's 95 850 GLT. The noise it makes sounds very much like what you describe.

In my opinion, unless you ever plan on towing with your car...I would save a few bucks and do the bypass that IPD sells. Its cheaper than the solenoid and it eliminates the guess work as to what could be wrong.

Maybe I just don't understand the OD in our cars (since mine hasn't worked since I got it...same thing no response from the button on the shifter) but why would it hurt for the OD to always be engaged "especially at highway speeds"? I would think that the prime time to use it is at highway...
