Re: Gas leaking from top of new fuel pump. Yikes!

Thanks! I'm glad to have a fun, safe, & comfortable car back on the road! I think you are right that the green rubber thing is some kind of o-ring, although if so it is a kind of internal sealing device that's common to all of the fuel line quick-connectors.

Re: Gas leaking from top of new fuel pump. Yikes!

I was not 100% happy with my 'spliced' fuel line and in an effort to snug things up a bit damaged my splice and caused another fuel leak. So I gave up and spent an afternoon lying on my back in the mud at the salvage yard to obtain a complete fuel line (from fuel pump to fuel filter). BTW... the fue...

Re: not starting

Just because your fuel pump is making noise does not mean it is doing anything. If you have an auto salvage yard nearby you might be able to pick up a 'new' fuel pump complete with plastic housing for $10 bucks. Just be very, very gentle when popping off the 'quick' connectors from the top of your f...

Re: 850 cuts out when more than %50 throttle is applied

What did you do incorrectly the first time with the fuel pump? That's a good question. I did not see anything obviously awry with the way I installed the new fuel pump, but I took the whole thing inside the house, tore it all apart, and put it all back together very carefully. If I had to guess I w...

Re: 850 cuts out when more than %50 throttle is applied

I had a problem after installing a new fuel pump where the car would start and run great until about 3,000 rpm. Then it would lose all power and die if I did not take my foot off of the gas pedal. Turns out it was a problem with the way I installed the new fuel pump. I took it out, took it apart, pu...

Re: Heat Shield Recall Expired, now Extended Until 2009/12/31

The reason developed nations don't seem to be interested in buying car companies is because it is a low profit margin business and child's play these days. There is far more money to be made in manufacturing... advanced weapons. We will be seeing more and more cars made in places like China because ...

Re: Gas leaking from top of new fuel pump. Yikes!

I was finally able to fix the gas leak from the damaged 90 degree quick-connect fuel line connector that snaps onto the top of the fuel pump. What I ended up doing was going to the salvage yard and cutting a connector off of a wrecked Volvo 850. (And while I was at it found a practically pristine af...

Re: Gas leaking from top of new fuel pump. Yikes!

If just dawned on me that I might be able to grab a generic fuel line fitting at the local auto parts store and make it work. Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks.

Re: Gas leaking from top of new fuel pump. Yikes!

Well... I spoke too soon. Although the fitting now seats properly, I believe it is broken somehow and not sealing completely. I can see an occasional bubble appear at the base of the fitting and if I press the fitting down gently a trickle of gas leaks out which quickly becomes a puddle of ga...
