That wasn't too bad. Took about an hour because aligning and getting the back bolt in wasn't easy. The trick to getting the back bolt out is to use a short allen wrench. There is plenty of room to turn it on the engine side.

I should have thought about this. Recently changed the headgasket and all the jockeying of the turbo destroyed the lower dump seal. I have seem many how to's on FWD. Are there any time and frustration saving tips to work around the bevel gear? Any advice that works will be greatly appreciated.

Found the problem. I put a nut on the bolt on the back of the alt. that is supposed to thread in to the plate. that also explains why I was missing the nut for the front of the ps pump. car runs better than ever.

It was on correctly. Something has caused the idler pulley to angled out on the leading edge causing the belt to ride off of the alternator pulley. The mounting bolt is true so there must be something behind the plate or the plate is bent.

The problem is pretty obvious. I recently replaced the head gasket and now the idler pulley doesn't line up. Where did I go wrong? Give me something to look for please.

It is not difficult to replace any of those parts. No special tools needed, just time. Get a second opinion. The parts can be ordered for as little as $220 for everything or a little more for higher quality. If you believe paying more gets you better quality.
