Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Great advice on the Isopropyl alcohol. I found some 91% in the medicine cabinet and poured in a quart. I had not thought about the ethanol in gas. I thought about using some E85 but can't find any through gas buddy in the area. Guess some more alcohol would be my best bet to clean out any more moist...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Mystery solved! It was water in the fuel tank! The air bubbles that I was seeing on the clear return line was the water "boiling" with the gas as it came down the fuel rail. There was enough gas to overcome the issue until the tank got low and the water sloshed to the pickup sock. Also the...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

You guys are being very helpful. A couple of things: The pump is still running but not producing pressure. Not even at the output from the tank. The Regina cars only have the one pump. Under the car is just the filter that's the same as a Bosch filter. The voltage at the pump is 11.3 though the batt...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Thanks to RickHaleParker for the suggestion of raising the side of the car. I put ramps at both right wheels to simulate the making a right turn and the fuel pressure went to zero within a few seconds. I have pulled the pump assembly and there is still about 2" of fuel in the plastic "well...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Thanks for the input guys. I have not tried to jack the car up on the right to tip the fuel but that's a good idea. The car acts like you have turned off the switch when making the right turn, but the tach stays steady and I even had a timing light taped to the windshield and the secondary continues...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

That does look interesting! If I am seeing the illustration correctly, that is what I would call the fuel filler pipe vent. The line that is attached to the Fuel Pump assembly (at the very top) that is about 1/2" id and vents vapors back to the filler pipe right downstream from the gas cap. Tha...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Thanks for answering my rollover valve question. It appears as if this is a device to prevent fuel from leaking out of the vent/EVAP system when the car is not upright. Unlike Ford (and others) who electrically turn off the fuel pump I can see that this system could not be producing my dying on righ...

Re: Regina 740 dies on right turns

Well it seems like that would be visible somewhere. I've seen plenty of Bosch plug wires eaten up before by rodents. When I was a Volvo Service Manager (in the 80's) we did a lot of wiring harness replacement due to degrading wire coatings. This one looks fine. That would not explain why a full tank...

Regina 740 dies on right turns

I am stumped. I picked up this nice clean 91 740 wagon that had not run in years. After replacing the high pressure in tank fuel pump, the fuel filter, flushing out the tank and all the usual tune up stuff the car runs great! Except for one problem. If it is below 1/2 tank it stalls on a right turn ...

240 Blower motor "quick fix"

Recently my 1990 Volvo 240 wagon started the dreaded "squealing pig" fan noise although I knew the motor was not very old. As I thought about ordering a new motor and pulling the dash apart to do the fun job I decided to try something different. I was inspired by a recent "laparoscopi...
