This link will work for changing a the front bevel gear on a 2003 xc70 minus the damper removal...there wasn't one on my car. http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how_tos/transmissions_driveshafts/awd_bevel_gear_service.html I would suggest using this: PERFORMANC...

Re: 98 V70 New purchase
Thanks everyone for all the feedback. The "owner" stated he owned the car for many years but was unsure if he had the timing belt replaced. The Carfax showed an odometer discrepency.....so based on these two items I let the car go.

98 V70 New purchase
Hello, i'm considering a 1998 Volvo V70 base model, non-turbo, leather and full power options. It's a 2 owner with 150k miles. I've had several 99-00 S/V/C70's but don't have experience with the 98. Are there any issues or maintenance concerns that I need to be aware of? Any advice is appreciated.

150k miles.
Any thoughts on the whining noise? It occurs before the car is running and the key is in the on position. It a bigh pitched whine and Sounds like something electrical dying.

I've always thought that the waterpump would leak via a peep hole to indicate failure not cease circulating. Is it possible for the water pump to stop pumping? This is odd because I thought the pump impeller is operated mechanically.
