Still stranded in the Mojave. Can the strut be put back together without the washer? Or is the washer holding it together at the top? How dangerous is it?

Unfortunately there isn't 'old' ones to use. The washer broke off when I was on some dirt road. I could not see the part of the strut sticking out on top! Essentially the tire was attached only on the bottom! And it seems the mechanic DID NOT use a proper nut when he replaced my strut! I need to fin...
