The evap canister itself is not a problem spot. Since the code indicates a gross leak, I would suspect that either the gas cap is not sealing tightly enough (not likely) or someone replaced the gas cap with an aftermarket, Non-Volvo one. If I'm not mistaken, I believe (believe) that it's located above the wheel liner in the front passenger side fender - was the car involved in a front end collision? 1998 V70 T5: Where is the EVAP Canister?

I just bought my first Volvo and it already has a problem :o Can any of you V70 T5 owners point me to the EVAP canister on your cars? I have tried to locate it using a Chilton's manual, but the photos and descriptions do not match the 1998 V70 T5. I am currently chasing a check engine message number...
