Re: fender welting

That's a funny question. I guess it looks nice, too. If it was all intact, wouldn't it seal off the seams between the fender and the body rather than allow water to collect? I would think that rot would occur faster if the fender and body just had a small seam that was always exposed to rain instead...

Brake conversion on 1958 PV444

I was wondering if it's possible without too much expense to convert the single circuit braking system on my 58 pv444 to a dual circuit system. Is there a drop-in master cylinder that can replace the current one that would allow me to use pretty much the same plumbing that's there? I want the added ...

Re: Starter nightmare

OK, Thanks again, Jerry. I'll try cleaning that and see how it works out.

Re: Starter nightmare

Thanks for that info Jerry. It is the B16 engine. You are right. Parts are getting more scarce for this thing. There's plenty of parts for the B18 and B20. I took a video of the starter in action. You can see that the pinion gear is shooting all the way out but it seems like the teeth are slipping o...

Re: Starter nightmare

I just wanted to add something to what I wrote yesterday. I climbed under the car again and observed the starter in action. Forget what I said about a weak solenoid because the drive gear is shooting all the way out and staying in place as it turns. What is happening is that the starter gear is slip...

Starter nightmare

I have a '58 Volvo pv444 and I have been having a problem with the starter that I'm hoping someone may have encountered. I purchased the car last year and since the first time I tried starting it, there was an awful grinding noise. I pulled the starter and saw that the front of the pinion gear was w...
