lost the battle I'm afraid.. my local dealer called Volvo Customer Services only after I had agreed to leave the car with them.. said that Customer Services wouldn't deal with the call unless they were sure that no more miles would be driven from the point of their decision.. ho hum.

Larry, I'm not knowledgeable enough on the workings of the car to comment to be honest but I understand your logic... all I can say is that with the MAF connected, the car goes in to limp home mode at the drop of a hat, without it, I can drive (so far) without problem until I hit kick down mode ...

changed the air filter today with no effect (it was dirty)... however, tried driving with the MAF sensor disconnected and it drives far better during normal conditions, never going in to limp home mode!.. the only time it does is when I put the throttle to the floor to have it go in to kick down ...
