Re: Just quit running..."timing tensioner"?

Service dept. called and said they are not sure yet but think the tensioner that keeps the timing belt broke. Not the belt itself. His comment, "probably needs a new motor...if you want to keep the car at all". This month is our final payment on this XC 90...uncanny irony. Please let me kn...

Just quit running..."timing tensioner"?

2004 XC 90 with 149 k miles. Going down the highway at 60 mph and engine just quits. Electrics still working and still gas in tank. No thump, no sputter, no surge, just turned off! In the past when the vehicle quit running (probably the phantom module issue posted elsewhere on this forum) the engine...

Re: climate control/heater fan

so much for that theory  Unit is still apart so I'll take your advice and report back. Thanks much Jimmy57! Cliff btw: the floor insulation is over 4" thick with the styro embedded into the foam. makes for a tough bend back so that I can fit in the space. the seat/track would have to c...

Re: climate control/heater fan

Opinion please. Is it possible that an extremely dirty cabin filter could cause an already rotationally challenged blower to bind up and/or slow down? It seems an abundance of cold air is sucked in and crosses the filter before reaching the fan cage. If this filter is dirty, hence causing a quasi ve...

Re: climate control/heater fan

Perhaps this is answering my own question. Seems like the aforementioned white/black box is for air intake from outside that supplies the blower (is this what houses the "cabin filter"?) In any event, this box stays in. So far I've been able to remove the 4 screws that I can see which leav...

Re: climate control/heater fan

the fan is to the right of an airbox that's white with a black cover. any need to remove this box when attempting blower removal? i'm in there now and having a heck of a time getting my oversized hands into the undersized area so I don't want to remove anything not called for. i see the fan up there...

Re: climate control/heater fan

Are the pics in this link applicable to what I'll encounter or is the XC90 different?

Re: climate control/heater fan

Before I dive into the blower removal can you tell me if the glove box has to come out or is it just the lower panel. Also, since I was reading the procedure on an earlier model that calls for a T-20 and T-25 Torx and a deep 13mm socket can I assume this 04 is the same? It's 3 degrees outside so I w...

Re: climate control/heater fan

Yes - the blower occasionally made a high pitched squeal mostly upon starting. The colder the temp, the louder the squeal. I'll be taking the blower out over the weekend (if temp gets above 0...NO garage)

Is a resistor likely to respond "on/off" to such cold temps?
