Re: 1999 V70 T5 clunking noise front driver's side when coas
The most recent time I've had the wheels off was when I replaced the front struts (and a bunch of other stuff) which wrapped up in the first week of July.abscate wrote:Lug bolts rarely loosen up by themselves ..have you recently do wheel work on the car?

Re: 1999 V70 T5 clunking noise front driver's side when coas
As described above: http://petermetzger.co/img/mvs/wheel.jpg      I tightened up the remaining four bolts to the specified 81 ft-lbs; the two tight ones were completely tight, the two loose ones were finger-loose. I checked the remaining three wheels and every bolt...

Re: 1999 V70 T5 clunking noise front driver's side when coas
Alright, headed out to the garage to see if I can get this axle out; I'll post photos when it's done :) EDIT [terrifying discovery] I pulled the car into the garage and went over to the front driver's side wheel to get started, and discovered that a roadwheel bolt was completely missing, two more we...

Re: 1999 V70 T5 clunking noise front driver's side when coas
I was planning to replace the axle (or both) with a reman from either NAPA or FCP but if it can be safely repaired I'd be glad to do that instead. I'm not sure what you mean by "replace bolt" though - are you just saying to get a new bolt for the outer end of the axle? I actually bought a ...

1999 V70 T5 clunking noise front driver's side when coasting
I noticed two days ago while coming around a corner that there was a slight repetitive clunking sound coming from the front driver's side near the wheel. Over the past couple of days it has gotten louder and more consistent and seems to happen most when I'm coasting and/or turning - if I'm applying ...

I'm not a lifelong Volvo tech or even a mechanic by trade, but I've had my '99 V70 T5 for a few years now and have done a good amount of work on it, replacing the following parts: - all brake rotors/pads, 3 of 4 calipers - outer tie rod - sway bar endlink - serpentine and timing belts w/ tensioner -...

Re: 1999 V70 T5 - doing a bunch of maintenance!
Just a quick update - I installed new front struts/hardware (still using old coil springs) last night so that bit is all buttoned up :) I also replaced the tailgate struts which had worked fine in warm weather but always fell down when the temperature got a little cooler. Going to get back to the en...

Re: '99 S70 Strut Replacement
I ended up ordering new struts today; went with Sachs (OEM but not "Genuine Volvo") - the Bilstein touring ones were tempting me but I just don't have the cash for it. I expect the pair of Sachs struts to be a big improvement anyway. What kind did you go with abscate? I'd like to replace t...

Re: 1999 V70 T5 - doing a bunch of maintenance!
What I will do on mine is remove all the little electric and sensor stuff, give it a clean with something like Simple green, then paint it. I paint the intake manifold while it was out for the PCV job and it looks clean Good call, I had somehow forgotten about Simple Green but it's good stuff! :mrg...
