Re: Wondering If I Have Ever Had An ETM Problem
Thanks for your quick response! Almost a year ago, when I first took my car to the indi shop, they immediately noticed the battery cables were badly corroded so they fixed them, but I'm not sure if they had completely replaced them or just re-soldered the cables. Anyway, after they were fixed, my ca...

Wondering If I Have Ever Had An ETM Problem
Hi everybody! For about two years now, my 1999 S70 will slow down and come to a complete stop while I'm driving. Sometimes it rumbles and shakes before it's about to do this, and sometimes it is very quiet. The same three indicator lights ALWAYS come on when my car does this: "generator not cha...

I love you howardc64!
I took a mirror, out and it has the white XeMODeX sticker! YAY! So it's DEFINITELY NOT the ETM?! Would you say it's the mass air flow sensor causing my car to go into limp mode?
Thank you so much!

Re: Volvo Dealer Told Me That My New XeMODeX ETM Is No Good.
Okay, I think I misread a reply, Sorry, I didn't take my ETM out to read the bottom, I just read Magneti Marelli on the exposed part of the ETM. So it could be a XeMODeX, just inside a Magneti Marelli casing? But it looks so shiny compared to all of the filth under the hood, I guess I had just assum...

Re: Volvo Dealer Told Me That My New XeMODeX ETM Is No Good.
Thanks everyone! Well, I feel like an idiot, my ETM is not a XeMODeX, it's a Magneti Marelli ETM or at least that is what is engraved on the outside. Ugh. Is it possible for Magneti Marelli ETMs to fail in 7 months? I don't drive that much at all, just to school and on errands; no long-distance trip...

Volvo Dealer Told Me That My New XeMODeX ETM Is No Good.
Two years ago my 1999 S70 started going into limp home mode once every two months and for about a year I've been going back and forth between the Volvo Dealership and the Independent Volvo repair shop, and none of them had any idea what was going on with my car, and neither of them seemed to really ...

Re: S70 Loves to Be in Limp Mode, Dealership Clueless
So we took my car into an independent shop, and they ran tons of tests on it, and somehow got some codes out of it. The mechanic concluded that there's a connection issue with the ETM and something else, and he doesn't know what that something else could be, and he's not ready to say for sure that w...

Re: S70 Loves to Be in Limp Mode, Dealership Clueless
All of the codes in my car have been wiped out, and they have been for a while. My dad was on the internet and he found some articles about how replacing either the battery or the alternator (I had to do both about a year ago) can result in an accidental code wipe out, and coincidentally all of thes...

Re: S70 Loves to Be in Limp Mode, Dealership Clueless
So after I got the battery cables fixed, and after driving the car about 250 miles, it went into limp mode last night and I tried it out again this morning and it did the same thing. I tried the "rowing technique" rapidly moving the shifter back and forth and that did absolutely nothing so...

Re: S70 Loves to Be in Limp Mode, Dealership Clueless
I took my car in today, but on my way there, when I had just half a block more to go until I reached the repair shop, my car went into limp mode again! Anyway, I just got a call back saying that while there are no codes stored, the mechanics noticed that my battery cables are badly corroded and this...
