Re: 1997 850 Air bag (SRS) OBD unit in engine compartment
Thanks! So much for the easy solution. I see now I have a 1995 service manual. Sounds like a trip to a local Volvo shop is in the cards.

1997 850 Air bag (SRS) OBD unit in engine compartment
I am unable to locate the SRS on board diagnostic controller in the engine compartment. I need to view/reset trouble codes after driving without the passenger airbag connected. The air bag service manual shows it in front of the computer units on the right side of the engine compartment.

Re: 1998 v70 xc - Automatic trans - button on shifter sticki
Great step by step and pics ... wasn't sure where that spring went. BTW, I placed a block of wood on top of the console and then used a screwdriver to pry the top off with a tap of my hammer. (Wish I'd read this before I spent an hour removing the entire shifter assembly out of junker at the u-pull-...

Re: Whining or howling noise from engine
I'm still trying to sort out the cause of this noise, it seems to be getting a little louder.
Listen closely to the "scrunch" sound as the engine stops... any new ideas?

Re: Whining or howling noise from engine
Well...jacking up the engine didn't make the least difference. I poked and prodded from underneath while it was running and couldn't get the sound to change/stop. If I had to pinpoint a location I'd say it is coming from the area of the thermostat. Before I replaced my leaking radiator there were ti...

Re: Whining or howling noise from engine
Thanks, I like your suggestion. Though it doesn't seem like it could cause such a steady, loud noise, I'll give it a try and post back.

Re: Whining or howling noise from engine
Hmmm. I've been poking around in there and sure don't see the air pump. I even removed the hose from the air box to the throttle body to get a better look. I did NOT look up from underneath. What else could be howling? BTW, the code I first mentioned was 170 related to a fuel mix issue, no doubt cau...

Re: Whining or howling noise from engine
Can I unplug the power to the air pump to see if the noise stops before I move on to the ECU trick?

Whining or howling noise from engine
When my engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature I begin to hear a loud whine or howl coming from the intake area. The sound is present with the serpentine belt off so that rules out the alternator, power steering and AC. The noise does not change when the engine is revved in park, but ch...

Re: Timing belt alignment woes
OK, good. I thought they had to be the ones but it seemed odd they would extend so close to the belt.
