Thanks Bill, I dont think this is in my Haynes manual

I am trying to diagnose a fuel problem, it will randomly be hard to start, want to die, run rough be gutless. I can smell fuel in the exhaust, but not a lot It will do this hot or cold,with a full tank, or empty, turning it off and restarting seems to help, and after it gets going it will run fine. ...
