90 240 runs rough

I am trying to diagnose a fuel problem, it will randomly be hard to start, want to die, run rough be gutless.
I can smell fuel in the exhaust, but not a lot
It will do this hot or cold,with a full tank, or empty, turning it off and restarting seems to help, and after it gets going it will run fine.
I am leaning toward the fuel pressure regulator
There must be a way to put a pressure guage on it but I dont see a schrader valve?

This is how to check the fuel pressure on the '90 240. I wonder why they didn't just put a valve in the line!!
