As long as it is not a T6 you should be fine. as you stated, they do like to eat wheel bearings, they will also eat tires. Brakes tend to be clockwork every 30k on the front and 60k on the rear. Also, if you want to pull the system into a vacuum after evacuating, 45 minutes - 1 hour will sufficiently tell you if you have a leak, no need to leave it overnight. Just fill with 134a, dont forget the compressor oil, and if you can find it leak detection dye and a uv light (black light) will help...

You mentioned scanning for codes, were any present? (if so, what are/were they?)
When do you encounter the shaking, all the time, highway speeds, low speed, braking, accelerating, rainy tuesdays?
