I recently rebuilt my PNP sensor on my 96 850 GLT Wagon after seeing the up arrow and some sluggish shifting. I also had a code error on the Engine RPM Sensor. After reading several posts throughout the Volvo forums I decided to try and rebuild the PNP switch.

Just thought I would give an update. I have learned that it is the RPM/Engine Speed Sensor. Now its just a matter of finding one. Thanks Erik and DKM for your help!

Erik and BKM, Thanks for the replies. I just unpluged that sensor, and the car still started fine and ran at an idle. I have been having shifting problems however and took apart and cleaned up the PNP switch, afterwards I took the car out for a test drive and it ran great for about the first 11 ...

Thanks for the quick reply, this was my first guess, but the bottom appears slightly different. It doesn't have the small circular metal piece. Also being a novice I wasn't sure where the crankshaft sensor went. Do you know if its the same sensor with a new look?
