Thanks, I'll check it out. The column and steering wheel are solid side to side, up and down, etc. When I had the cover off and rotated the switch housing nothing solidly bolted seemed to move. The turn signal a WW wands move up and down about 10mm.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll take the multi-prong approach with vacuum leaks, oil leaks and try the catalytic converter cleaning using laquer thinner. If all else fails it's time for a trip to my local mechanic.
