No, you need to solder to the pcb board on the right of the unit when you remove the tape assembly. I also have the 605 unit in my 02 S40.

Okay, so I'm doing the mp3 input mod to my tape deck (model no. HU-605) and I've soldered the wires to the points on the board where the trim pots are. The sound comes through the system but it is very poor quality - about as good as a badly recorded tape from the 80's! Also the vocals are very low ...
