Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

Mine has started perfectly every time since I put the new starter in. -15, -18, -10 and no issues. I hope yours is fine to. -8 is a pretty good test when it wouldn't start at -5 before. Good luck.

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

Per mrbrian, it's the starter. The car thermometer said -23C this morning but the house one said -18C. Either way my car wouldn't start at that temperature before. With the new starter it started right up like it did yesterday. No pulsing of the tach etc. Without that background of the EM field I mi...

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

I'm not ready to say it's solved yet but it just stared just fine at -12C and it wouldn't do that before. I'd like to get at least a -15C day. Some info about the starter. The one that came off was a FoMoCo so I guess Ford Motor Company when they owned Volvo. The motor section was physically smaller...

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

I used some aluminum foil to shield the wire going to the crankshaft sensor but it's not easy and I don't know how effective it is.
Yesterday I changed the starter and put on a Bosch rebuilt unit. Waiting for cold weather and I will post the results.

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

I had my ECM sent out and tested by XeMODex. They even put it in the freezer and everything tested fine.
Did you try turning on the ignition, disconnecting the battery and then starting? It worked on mine but it may not be the answer for yours.

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

Very interesting information from mrbrian200. My test of disconnecting the battery while the ignition is in position 2 and reconnecting was successful again this morning at -14C. Started like summer. Apparently something doesn't happen in this situation. Not a real solution though disconnecting the ...

Re: 2007 XC70 does not start in cold temperature (battery is good)

I have the exact same car with the exact same problem. Staring problems below -8 or so and doesn't start below -12 to -15. It's been going on since last winter as well. I also live near Toronto. Have done lots of tests including getting the ECM and CEM tested but both appear to be fine. Changed the ...
