Re: 1999 s80 timing off
it must be in the VVT. but if the cams line up and the vvt is clockwise as far as possible and mark is right then it should be in relative timing, correct?

Re: 1999 s80 timing off
yes, it is exactly like the picture you sent me. it is a straight camlock so i may be off ever so slightly, but i am giving it another shot. the only valve going down in question is #3 on intake. but the piston is going down, so i don't think it is a problem.

Re: 1999 s80 timing off
i took it back to the machine shop and they replace 4 bent valves, so they say. i did a light test onthe head when it came back. i lined up the slots on the cam locked them, rolled back the crank until it stopped on the mark with the extension in the port behind the starter. rolled the vvt forward (...

Re: 1999 s80 timing off
that sound about right Mike. however it is a little more difficult to tell b/c the head is back on. i think 1&6 are about halfway down 2&5 are farther down and 3&4 are almost at the top or just past the top. i cant figure whatt is going one with rotation after i get the head cover on.

Re: 1999 s80 timing off
i have been offof the s80 as i had to redo the head on a 1998 s70 5 cyl. so much easier to work on. i assembled the s80 head. all of the marks were good. it still wouldn't spin freely at the crank when i put the cover back on. i am doing something wrong. when i removed the cover the crank turned fre...

Re: 1999 s80 timing off
ok, thanks Mike. i didn't catch that either. so it looks like my marks are very close. but if cyl3&4 at at the top or very close, when i install the top cover it will open #3 intake and #6 exhaust. #6 piston is down so i am not worried, but wont #3 intake valve get bent? i think i may have bent ...
