This seems like a fuel pressure problem: pressure regulator or leaking injectors.

or maybe you need to replace the sensor but this being the case the car wouldn't run all too well

I'd start looking at the thorottle switch
Make sure it's tuned.
Clean the throttle body with carb cleaner (make sure no solvent gets in the manifold).
Check the ICV too.
