Gear selector manual mode overly light
I have a new-to-me 2004 V70 (T5 with auto trans) with some 233,000 miles. I have a _mechanical_ problem with the gear selector: The movement to manual mode is very light - there is almost no resistance. I tend to rest my hand on the gear selector, and I found myself revving to 6000rpm on 1st gear to...

Re: low compression in cylinder #2 - should I attempt a ring job?
I hate open-ended (unresolved) problems, so I want to follow up and close this soap opera. I ended up completing the head job (removed all valves, lapped, put it all together). Against better advice here, I did not do the oil pan rings (since they would be as much work later), The motor runs about a...

Re: low compression in cylinder #2 - should I attempt a ring job?
Guys, thank you for your response. It turns out I failed to disclose some damning evidence: 20220205_172116.jpg The vertical line in the middle is a gash/nick. I have noticed it today when going over cylinders (last time I just removed the head and call it the end of a long weekend). The nick goes f...

low compression in cylinder #2 - should I attempt a ring job?
Friends, I have a '96 NA 850 with some 237,000 miles. Cylinder #2 had low compression, some 110-150 psi while other cylinders had consistent 200psi. I am now rebuilding the head. To my dismay, the valves looked fine - I could see no difference in valves from #2. I will go ahead and complete the valv...

Re: Is it OK for oil pump to be loose or jiggle?
Sveedy, you are a gem. I am reluctant to open things up unless forced to. But I now see there is no reason to fear. I'll open the pump up and clean it. Thanks!

Is it OK for oil pump to be loose or jiggle?
I am replacing oil pump seals (big rubber o-ring and the paper gasket) on my '96 850 with 237,000 miles. As far as I know, it was never opened. Once I removed the pump, it "jiggled". That is, the moving part (that attaches to the crank) is rather loose, and can move 1-2mm on each side when...

RESOLUTION: Re: airbags deployed; how do I repair it?
Thanks to all that provided help and advice. I have fixed the problem over this weekend. It was mechanical - I had to adjust the throttle cable using the plastic adjustment screw near the throttle body. The engine subframe is badly bent. The front part is bent by 90 degrees and crushed. It ruined th...

Re: airbags deployed; how do I repair it?
holler1, Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. I'll definitely investigate the electrical/ground issue - it is a great advice. I need to drag the car inside my garage over the weekend, see the underside, and check all sensors and connectors. Like I said earlier the engine underframe took a beat...

Re: airbags deployed; how do I repair it?
Lee, Thank you very much for your response. I unplugged the horns to get rid of the annoying noise (it may be that the blown bag keeps the horn button on all the time). The car started right up but went into high revving. I shut it off at 4,000 - after about a second. I tried to put it into reverse ...
