Re: Fried battery, what is a good battery charger?

The gold standard intelligent chargers with many patents for desulfication are Ctek. I know for as fact BMW chargers are made by them and rebranded and are used by all their show room cars left on continuously. You can get them on Amazon. Swedish engineering to match the Volvo :)

Re: Gas smell through vents

I took a video of the smoking dipstick, I will leave it slightly open.

I also noticed the hose connecting to the ptc valve is oily. I believe that hose is part of the pcv if I’m not mistaken. Does that hose rupture or seep due to pressure?

What do you guys think?

Re: Gas smell through vents

Ok I did some more analysis. When you have the ventilation on recirc you don’t smell anything. I did the glove test and it failed, it didn’t blow the glove fast but it did inflate it. When I pulled the dipstick I saw smoke. When the pcv system fails does it get into the vent? The smell is smells lik...

Gas smell through vents

Hello all. After my wife had her front drivers fender hit, she started to notice a gas smell through the ventilation system. When the car is moving you don't notice it, I guess because the fresh air is getting to the intake, but you notice it when you are at a stop. I removed the fender and I don't ...

Re: That won't buff out

You can use after market rivets too. Harbor freight sells substandard chinesium ones. Amazon has some at good prices. I have even gone the cheap route and use aluminum rivets with washers in the past. So the standard rivets don't push through the plastic? I thought it was a requirement to use the p...

Re: That won't buff out

Still waiting for insurance response; I'm pretty sure they won't fix it like last time they will just write cheque. It looks easy to fix, I found someone who had a fender. The car smells a bit like gas, I believe the purge valve is behind that fender correct? Is the OEM supplier Bosch, I see it list...

Re: That won't buff out

You are the luckiest man on MVS this week. That fender panel will bolt off, and my guess is the underlying stuff is all good. If you post your colour code, you might be able to find a bolt on junkyard one for cheap and skip paint. If it is her car, then have the taxi company pay the Volvo Body guys...

That won't buff out

Wife got hit in a parking lot by Cab driver, she sent me this picture; I haven't looked at the car. Is front quarter panel bolted in or bolted and welded? I know there is the top bolts in the engine bay, not sure if it is welded anywhere?. She was hit once before and I was able to hammer the dent ou...

Re: When it's time to move on (and what did you buy?)

My dad has a 1999 528iT sport package, we've had it in our family since 2011 at 99k miles, bought it from the original owner. This car was originally my mom's, it had replaced her last '99 528iT sport that had been totaled by some idiots in a lawn service truck doing about 45 when she was stopped w...

Re: When it's time to move on (and what did you buy?)

Haha, BMW is the best-kept secret. Personally, I like BMW better b/c it seems to run well and does not have the little problems in Volvo. BMW is more fun to drive. But the fun stopped in 2006 when BMW switched to electric WP etc. Get a 2004-2006 X3 or X5 with M54 engine < 100K miles. Great values! ...
