No error codes at all. I also tried disconecting the air temp sensor which did not help anything. I don't know what to try next, please help. Thanks. On my 1989 740, I fixed my infuriating stall-when-warm issue by putting iin a new distributor with a new Hall sensor. But this problem was also confi...

Thank you. I'll go over there and check that. I've been looking for a book, but can't seem to find one. Put it this way: I bought a Haynes 740/760 book and I can honestly tell you, the online 700/900 series FAQ + help from knowledgeable and generous Volvo DIYers from forums such as this one beats t...

Good stuff Bill. Thank you very much. I didn't think the switch would be a problem, because the manual says that it disengages 4th gear and lights a light on the dash. I figured that would mean I couldn't disengage 4th gear since the switch doesn't do anything. I'll try to clean that switch. If tha...

Hi Thomas The 4th gear problem - that's your overdrive (OD) relay not working for some reason. Mine was intermittent. Check out the 700/900 series FAQ at brickboard.com for possible solutions. I discovered that for me, the issue was cracked soldering joints in the OD relay itself, and it was an easy...

The hoses get old and loose. I have replaced them, but have used original Volvo as anything else does not last. No clamps on my two cars and the insulator is not required but in a cold climate the vapors may ice up. No worry here in TX. Hey thanks for the reply. What other types of hoses have you t...

B230FT breather hose - clamp or not?
Hi Should the long breather to air intake hose that straddles the top of the engine be clamped on both of its ends? As it currently is, it doesn't seem to be too tight on both ends. I am concerned that if I hit a big dip or bump, this hose might come of on one or even both ends. Also, is the insulat...

Yes, the first things I had to do to get my (also) 1994 T-5 going right were changing the leaky intercooler hoses and all the vacuum lines. I used Samco silicone hoses and silicone vacuum lines and they made, as you have discovered, a massive difference to engine performance. If you still haven't do...

Re: K&N filter kits for 850's
Im led to believe that this kit will also fit the 2.0l engine . Im a big fan of K&N gear as I dont like having to replace air filters Id rather just clean and reuse . I also like the noise they make lol . Does anyone know if this kit will fit the 2.0l or if it wont does anyone know of a replace...

Welcome to the 740 owning community. I am restoring a 1989 vintage 740 turbo myself. I'd suggest you go over to http://www.brickboard.com and have a read of the 700/900 series maintenance and repair FAQ. BTW, the same FAQ is also available at Swedespeed.com and the UK Volvo club site. The nice thing...
