Re: 2005 XC70 sudden loss of drive

What I couldn't understand is why, with the XC70 being AWD did I lose ALL drive at once? 1. Part time AWD. The AWD does not engage unless the TCM detects wheel slippage on the front drive. The sensors are in the wheels. The wheel has to be spinning for wheel slippage to be detected. This is why you...

So the PIN is located at address 0xFFE000. Flash starts at address 0xFB0000, so when you get the dump the PIN is at offset 0x4E000 in the file. The PIN byte sequence in dump is not linear. Short answer is: "No". This is what was throwing me off. Because Renesas speaks through serial port in boot-mode, all you need is a FTDI adapter/chip to translate between serial and USB The serial pins on the chip are TTL logic, not RS-232 logic or USB logic. That you need is a USB to TTL converter...

More likely during boost ... high pressure

The reason a radiator is pressurized is to raise the boiling point so the water does not turn into vapor. About the same temperature and pressure as a intake when boosting.

You just need to get the Coolant level down and below the nipple. Draining from any point below the nipple will do.

Yes. The AW71 is just a stronger version of the AW70. Gear ratios are the same. L on the end means Lock-up torque converter.

Unless you have a B230F with LH 2.4 your transmission is a AW71 unless somebody did a degrading retrofit.

Check the timing belt tension. The Tensioner may have broken or come loose. Allowing the belt to jump one or two teeth. Just enough to create no start conditions but not interference.

Two most likely causes: Low on refrigerant and / or dirty evaporator coil causing the coil to ice up. A decrease in air flow is a clue that the coli is icing up.

High volume air flow or low volume air flow when fan is on high and the compressor is short cycling?

Ticking lifters on the older six cylinders is a common issue. The O-ring on the oil pick up tube goes defective. When this happens it is like sucking on a straw with a hole in it. Not enough oil gets to the lifters to keep them pumped up. Solution ... new O-ring for the oil pick up tube.

Re: 2004 S60R B8444S (V8) conversion (Previously : Exhaust Manifold removal.)

Yep... that's the biggest problem I see with using the S80 springs. Perhaps some sort of coilover setup for the S60 that's stiffer than the stock springs? I'll take measurements on the S60 then compare them to the struts on a XC90 4.4 which are all P2. Might be able to use the whole strut from a XC...

Re: Volvo Findings! (What have you found on Craigslist?)

1990 240DL 125K miles $3,995.

This is a business in Wichita, KS that deals in used Europen cars. Sales the cars whole or dismantles them for parts. Sells both used parts and remanufactured parts.

Re: Code ECM 4020 and other DTC codes

For shorts you can test at one end of the harness between two different wires. You should also check between one wire and a ground. Keep in mind ground wires are connected to ground so they will show shorted which is normal. For opens you can get some real long leads ( which most people do not have)...
