Re: 850 Wagon Transmission Failure?
Thank you all for the various inputs.. I'm gathering from this that in all likeliness I am looking at a transmission replacement and a couple other improvements as I'm doing it... but also possible that a culmination of old trans fluid, a quasi-functional solenoid may mean that the trans itself is i...

Re: '96 volvo 850 GLT wagon reverse gear blown??
Let me axe you this: assuming that I have ruined my transmission, what do you think CAUSED this? As I said I was on a hill, I had some equipment loaded up, I was in reverse facing downhill and I would give it gas but the car would roll forward. I tried braking until I could hear the gear engage (to ...

Re: '96 volvo 850 GLT wagon reverse gear blown??
I am not getting the flashing arrow, I've had it in the past with the codes (I forget) for TPS. I replaced the sensor and reset the codes, the arrow has not returned. I'm not getting anything on my OBDII scanner but I've heard too there may be codes that must be read by a dealer or another machine. ...

Re: 850 Wagon Transmission Failure?
There are reports of P80s being driven without a reverse gear for thousands of miles... You could try a couple of drain and fills and see if that helps any. (Certainly can't hurt.) But by and large, from what I've read on here, the loss of reverse means it's time to start saving for that transmissi...

850 Wagon Transmission Failure?
I drive a 1996 850 GLT Wagon and I was parking on a hill when I felt a pop in reverse gear... then no reverse gear. On a level ground I can hear the car engage reverse but it has very little or no torque at all, just ever so slightly inches back as if in neutral. I checked the fluid and it has a goo...

Re: '96 volvo 850 GLT wagon reverse gear blown??
I have checked the fluids, they look ok but I'm going to change the transmission fluid tomorrow for shits and giggles. I had to push it out of an incline in the rain today, which happens every 7 years or so in California, and I just pray for a spot that I can drive into and out of. I'll change the f...

Re: '96 volvo 850 GLT wagon reverse gear blown??
I should add that my OBDII scanner has not read any set codes. It also revs fine and but only catches the gear a little bit.

'96 volvo 850 GLT wagon reverse gear blown??
I have a '96 850 GLT wagon that is my daily commuter, work vehicle, etc. The other night I was parking on a hill and I felt the reverse go... gone? I can hear the gear engaging, on level ground I even get some traction but for all effective purposes the gear is not usable. Is this pure and simple a ...

Coolant Overflow/Bubbling - Blown Head Gasket??
My coolant reservoir is overflowing and bubbling when the engine gets hot, I checked the lid, plastic and tubing for cracks - there is a small crack in the plastic that the tubing grasps and could be a pressure leak. Is there a test I can do to see if it's the head gasket? I understand this is an ex...

Re: 850 GLT vs 850 TURBO?
I don't mind having an automatic. I live in Los Angeles so you never get out of first anyway. I'm leaning towards the TURBO.
