Re: 2002 c70 2.3 hard starting

I have been living under the impression immobilizer = crank, no start, no spark, no fuel.

Some rod failures are catastrophic failures.
Only times I've seen catastrophic rod failure is when someone was having too much fun with the turbo, which again points to driver error.

Re: 1996 850 2.3T blown #2 Rod

Regardless, engines don't throw rods without warning. It should have been very clear that something expensive broke, and before that expensive noises would have been heard. Saying oh it just "died" on the way home is not believable, especially when it almost threw a rod through the oil pan.

Re: Ever seen an oil pan hole like this?

I think your friends finances’ need to play a role in this, to put it mildly. Am I the only one who would try a pan drop, remove rod, polish, new bearing, and run that sucker? I would definitely drop the pan just to survey the damage (for curiosity's sake). If I could get a new rod and crank for ch...

It's never a bad idea to buy wear items from FCP, especially if it's suspension components and you live in the North.

Re: Ever seen an oil pan hole like this?

I'd go with JBweld to confirm the engine isn't toasted. If you still have oil pressure and don't hear expensive noises, then I'd pull a junkyard pan and replace it for piece of mind. Any damage to the filter or other parts of the underside?

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

I have always had problems with Fedex. Paid for next day delivery, they delivered it 2 weeks later, heavily damaged and then refused to take it back when I refused delivery. UPS has been good to me and quick, although handling can be questionable at times. One of the exhaust studs on the turbo broke...

I read an article recently in a UK classic car magazine about a company there that re-silvered plastic headlight lenses. Can't believe there isn't someone this side of the Atlantic that can't do the same.
Probably something to do with liability and vehicle safety laws in NA.

Re: Power steering fluid leak - bad steering rack?

800artfreed, what was the specific Lucas product called? I am at Walmart now looking at something called “Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak” but I don’t see a Lucas product specifically advertised for stopping powersteering leaks. My leaks are not exactly puddling on the floor but there is obvious fluid o...
