Re: 1998 V70 AWD bad rear wheel bearing

I have a junked 99 S70 AWD. You will have to check if rear hubs are the same. Send me a PM.

Re: Consensus on aftermarket / rebuilt calipers and wheel hubs?

You're also forgetting the $12-15 in shipping to send it back, plus several days of down time without the car. I'd rather not replace them every 1-2 years.

Re: Consensus on aftermarket / rebuilt calipers and wheel hubs?

My Cardone caliper froze up before the two year brake fluid interval, and it got fresh fluid when it went in. I always put on new bleeders and push 250 ml brake fluid whenever a wheel is open. I could not even remove the cylinder from the split open caliper with massive water pump pliers in a vice....

Re: Consensus on aftermarket / rebuilt calipers and wheel hubs?

I had 1 out of 5 Cardone calipers last over 2 years, rest lasted barely 8 months. The autozone caliper I bought likes to stick, but after a year it still hasn't seized yet *knocks on wood*. I'm going to call up the new machine shop in town and see if they rebuild calipers.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Heard a horrible screeching noise on my commute home, sounded like brakes on a big truck. Checked rotors, 3 out of 4 cool to touch, but LR I burned myself touching the rim spoke. Something hot back there. Loosened the bleeder screw on the caliper, and some fluid came out. Removed the old pads. Ever...

Consensus on aftermarket / rebuilt calipers and wheel hubs?

Looks like I am once again in the market for a new caliper plus a new wheel hub. I know to avoid Cardone like the plague, but are there any brands with a better record or to be avoided at all costs?

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

Oooh... a 144 would be sweet! And 760 turbos are pretty hard to find these days... either one would be cool! Knowing me, I'll likely end up with both. :D Glad you are ok! That’s the hard to fix thing. Did the muffler repair hold? :) What advice do the MVS cheapskates have for DIY exhaust repair? He...

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

If the A-pillar is bent, I'm not sure the frame is salvageable without compromising the structural integrity of the car. Even if the frame was intact, it would be much easier to find another volvo than find and swap in a new drive line. Got my eye on a rebuilt 144 and a 760 Turbo.

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

Well... this took a dramatic turn. Driving home early Monday morning, going around a wet turn, felt the front wheels suddenly lock causing the car to spin out, nose dive into the embankment, spin around again, and striking a tree with the front passenger door. Damage report: bottom of bumper ripped ...
