I thoroughly investigated around the intake. I confirmed the bracket for the pipe work is on top of the manifold and not trapped between the gasket. There does appear to be more gasket sticking out on the right side of the intake than the left. But I'm not sure how the gasket could have got ...

The donor engine is from a 1994 850 T5. Coded B5234T.

Can you use a piece of hose to your ear and use it as a stethoscope to try to help isolate the area of the leaking sound? Obviously be careful near anything that rotates and could catch the hose!!

Not everyone had a mechanics stethoscope to hand so this is a cheap version.

Try smoking the intake. A common mistake is when refitting the intake is to trap the hose clamp for the PCV hose between the RH end (when viewed from the front of the car) between the intake and gasket. You may not have done that but worth a check.

What was the code setting the CEL? You may have just lost power to the starter/ relay. Check the fuses.
