Re: 07 XC70 Upper Engine Noise

I would agree unless I'm missing something, my car sounds exactly like that too.

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Thats familiar, Old Blackie used to put his front paws up and look at me to hoist his back end up on a bed or in the car. In his 12th year which was his last, he still swam across a 1 mile wide lake and back, he would sleep for about 2 days after......sweet thing! Old dogs are the best!

Re: Suspension questions

I would be surprised if anything is worn out at that mileage, and that an LCA is bent. Check each part individually for play and only replace what is needed, I only use Volvo OEM parts. What is the driver complaint anyways? I've had bad luck with "quick struts". Again, I would only use Volvo brand O...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

All my labs have had hind end issues after about 10 years, a dog ramp really helps protect their shoulders and hips when jumping in and out of even a low deck Volvo. Metacam works magic on old dogs and really improves their quality of life when they get old.

Re: ball joint woes

That's really odd, just slap some new BJ's in and be done with it.

Re: Vibration at idle and acceleration after hitting a deer

I just got caught up on this thread. Did you check the front or rear engine mount? When I changed my mounts I found the front one to be about 75% separated. I noticed a huge difference in the vibration after I changed those mounts. My separated mount was the one between the engine and radiator, sorr...

Re: ball joint woes

Why don't you jack it up and take the wheel and tie rod off the knuckle, then move the knuckle back and forth left and right and see if you can isolate the noise. It sounds like it might be spring seats or strut bearings possibly. What does the top of the strut look like.....its pretty obvious when ...

Re: ball joint woes

Its probably the sway bar bushings, my car did the same thing a couple years ago after a long salty road winter. The ball joints shouldn't make that noise, there will always be some grease.....even after water ingress. Most of your new front end parts are adequate albeit not best ( read OEM Volvo) I...

Re: ball joint woes

You don't need the special tool for installing the ball joint, you can easily use the bolts to "press" it in, just make sure you clean the bore out when you get the old one out. Then torque the bolts appropriately.

Re: ball joint woes

That's very strange, are you sure the noise is coming from the ball joint? I'm not sure what brand those ones were but it seems that water ingress has occurred and rust is coming out, seems unusual since the boots aren't split. If you got two years out of some aftermarket brand bj's you did well. Ge...
