The parts I got off ebay were: Swedish Parts heater core: so far so good. some "high temp" temp cable covering for my ignition wires on the coils. If you take off the top timing cover (The one with the clips), I bet you have enough space to look down and see if there is a mechanical tensioner or not.
if yes, you have one.. if not.. hydraulic (in a different location).

I believe there is special procedures to remove the cam cover on volvos. Special as in if you don't follow them , you can crack the cam cover.

It has to to do with making sure there isn't too much pressure on one part of the cover. I think this is something to just dive into.

Mine lasted two years. When I took a look, the bread clips were gone. Instead of moving to the zip tie method (which should hold nicely), I just took clutch plate off and replaced shims inside clutch. That as last year. To expand on what vti said..... Your AC uses a magnetic clutch to spin the compressor. With AC off , the AC pulley spins free (ie not turning compressor). When your AC is on a magnet pulls the AC clutch against the free spinning pulley and forces the pulley to start turning the compressor... A great...

If it's not clear why people are asking about PCV system and the glove test it's because if the PCV system is bad, it will lead to excessive crankcase pressure which pushes on all the seals in your engine. How do you use this? I know you pour it into the cylinders. How much per cylinder? How long do you let it sit? since you're adding a liquid to the cylinder, do you have to extract it eventually before firing it up? Will this get into crank case and therefore require oil change before any actual mile...

About oil... 10w30 instead of 0w30 only means that it will be thicker on lower temperatures, at operating temp they would both be 30weight. I think it would only make sense if you recommend 10w40 or 10w50 or similar. I was going to reply with same thing about xw-30s all being approximately the same...

You have to rethread the insert through all the clamps -- it takes a little time, patience and double checking but it works well. I have bough...

Valve covers. That model year you also have to watch out for the balance shaft. What issues does it have with the balance shaft? There was a design flaw that caused water to pool where it shouldn’t and cause the bearings on balance shaft to rust and lose lubrication https://www.matthewsvolvosite.co...

They seem to be allowed to do exactly that in the US due to some old ruling on marketing. In Europe it'd be sold as a semi-synthetic. Here's the best explanation I can find for the distinction you are making between "full synthetic" and "true synthetic" https://www.pca.org/news/2015-11-02/synthetic...

The reason that you see voltage on on the small wire is because it’s feeding from the ignition switch through the idiot light in the dash. Re: Any clever tip to fix the trim panel under the steering wheel on an S70?

I went out last weekend to take pictures of my repairs and discovered two things. 1) The trim panel has the tabs on it and the dash has the loop. I thought it was the other way around. 2) I found that the screw hole on the panel was busted so I decided to repair it. I initially wanted to take a pict...

Re: Mineral based oil or Synthetic?

In a previous post June mentions that for an oil to be considered real synthetic, it has to be labeled 100% Synthetic. Do not confuse 100% Synthetic with "Full Synthetic" See below. That 5 qt jug is around $19 at Walmart. Even though the label says "Full Synthetic" there is no way it is made up of a...

Re: Mineral based oil or Synthetic?

I forgot to add that that castrol 5w-30 and 5w-40 are easier to find stocked in Walmarts or other auto parts stores.

The Castrol 0W-30 and 0W-40 are a bit tougher for find stocked in a store. At least that has been my experience. -A

Re: Mineral based oil or Synthetic?

One caveat to what OrangeX says. There is something odd about that walmart listing. Either the listing is wrong or they are selling some really old stock. The pictures and textual description list this as an SL oil and having that listed as the primary specification is odd. Another oddity is this cl...

Re: Mineral based oil or Synthetic?

Oh boy.. asking about what the right type of oil is... that's a dangerous question.. :D I just watched that video and that is a very good introduction and summary of oils. I do want to mention a few things about what was said in the video and some over all opinions/information that I have learned ab...

Re: HELP with dashboard removal.

Where does it feel like it's hanging up? High up in the dash area or lower. You said ""over the glove box area" but I wanted clarification on that. The dash pad is out. I know there are 3-4 10 mm bolts you have to take off under the glove box area but I think those have to come out for the dash pad ...

Re: Any clever tip to fix the trim panel under the steering wheel on an S70?

I am not near my car now so I can't take pictures. but on mine, one of the issues was the little oval slot on the panel. That slot slides over a hook. In my case that slot was torn and caused the panel to hang down a bit and have a generally loose fit. So I followed the same process I used for my da...

Re: Oil in plugs

BTW. you should still do a test to see if your PCV is functioning correctly. Even if a new clamp and gasket fixes your oil leakage issue, you need to find out if your PCV is working properly. If not, your engine will start pushing the oil out somewhere else and those other places can be way more $$ ...

Re: Oil in plugs

I don't think that hose should "pop right off" . :-) As part of the PCV repair you usually replace that hose. I think one issue with that hose is over time it because hard and stops being flexible and no longer seals well. That clamp you see there should be holding it snugly. Also to make sure you u...

Can you expand on how you removed the rear control arm link? I understand how your home made tool attaches to the link but what did you use to pull it out or press it in? Thanks That hammer on floor in picture and very determined mind (don't know hammer exact name in english.. it has like sand insi...

Re: No Oil Pressure - Stop Engine

To expand on what cn90 said, if you look at the link provided, you'll see that the o-rings in question connect and seal various tubes and channels in the oil pan. Those seals are critical for maintaining oil pressure in the plumbing of the oil pan as the oil pump tries to pump and circulate oil up i...
